Unplug Shifter Cable from Shift Hub Assembly at Stem

Remove existing Hood/Shifter Assembly

  • Pull back brake hood from bar tape to expose assembly.
  • Remove decorative finishing tape and set aside.
  • Remove electrical tape from bar tape and discard.

  • Unwrap bar tape to expose Hood/Shifter assembly.
  • Pay careful attention to the direction the wrap and position of the cables around the assembly.
  • You will need to repeat this pattern when finishing the installation.

  • Using a sharpie, mark the position of the Hood/Shifter clamp and Sprint Shift buttons.

  • Using a razor blade or box knife, very carefully cut the electrical tape holding the cables in place.

  • Using a 5 mm hex key, loosen the assembly clamp bolt and slide the Hood/Shifter off the handlebar.

Install new Hood/Shifter Assembly Right (000-7920) or Left (000-7921)

  • Taking the newly supplied Hood/Shifter Assembly, compare the old and new assemblies for confirmation.
  • Using a 5 mm hex key, loosen the clamp bolt on the new assembly.

  • Slide the new assembly on to the handlebar and reposition it at the previously marked locations.
  • Tighten assembly clamp bolt to 6.4 N⋅m.

  • Next, align Sprint Shift buttons at previously marked location.
  • Make sure the cable position is pointing up to the assembly.

  • Using the electrical tape, pre-cut a small piece of tape and secure the Sprint Shift buttons in place.
  • Make sure to secure the cable to the inside of the handlebar in the vertical position.

Route Shifter cables to Shifter Hub

  • Once the Sprint Shift Buttons are secured in the desired position, route the shift cables onto the Assembly using the provided channels.

  • Align the shift cables to the bottom front of the handlebar and secure at the elbow with electrical tape.

  • Continue the longer shift cable on the bottom front of the handlebar and secure with electrical tape 3” from the Cable Hub Assembly.
  • Make sure the shifter cable has sufficient slack to be plugged in once taped to the handlebar.

  • Re-wrap handlebars with new bar tape.

Note: Refer to the Handlebar Tape installation article for specific details and illustrations on re-wrapping the bar tape.

  • Plug in Shifter cable.

The shifter plug harness can only be plugged in one orientation. Locate the indicator “flat” section of the plug and position it to line up with the flat section of shifter port.

Plug in bike

Once all the steps are complete and the rework is done, the bike can be plugged back in and used again.
