At Stages Cycling, we are committed to rider safety. In light of the recent safety notice issued by Shimano, Stages Cycling is working closely with Shimano to ensure our customers are safe.  To view the recall information from Shimano, please click here.

Shimano recently issued a safety notice related to some bonded 11-speed HOLLOWTECH II road cranksets produced before July 2019 for a possible bonding separation issue. At Stages Cycling, we understand that the safety and well-being of riders should never be compromised. We expect that only a small number of customers will be impacted, but we encourage all customers with cranks that fall within the recall notice to contact a Shimano authorized dealer for crank inspection immediately.

Which Stages Power meters are affected by the recall?

The impacted model numbers are DURA-ACE and ULTEGRA branded cranksets produced before July 2019 with the following model numbers: ULTEGRA FC-6800, FC-R8000 and DURA-ACE FC-9000, FC-R9100 and FC-R9100-P. The model numbers are stamped on the inside of the crank arm near the bottom of the arm. Refer to Shimano's information to determine the production date based on the production code.

Please refer to Shimano's notice for more info.

If my crankset with a Stages Power meter is affected, and Shimano sends me a replacement crank, what do I do?

For customers affected in the US, we will be offering our Factory Install Service for Left, Right, and Dual-sided meters on the new FC08 (Ultegra) and FC09 (Dura-Ace) cranks, and have set up a dedicated page to help simplify the process.

Customers are free to select the Factory Install service that best fits their riding needs. Been using an L-only meter and want to go dual-sided? GO FOR IT!  The cost of the factory install service will match your rebate from Shimano, so for those selecting an equal replacement there will be zero cost for the service. Turnaround time door-to-door is approximately 2-3 weeks for the service.
