Replacement instructions

Unplug bike

Remove the power connector from the bike behind the rear leg before starting the repair.

Removal of the knob assembly

Use the 5 mm hex key to remove the black plastic cap on the rear of the knob.

Using a 4 mm hex key, loosen the knob set screw, but do not remove the knob, leaving it engaged.

Next, unfix the slider by turning the knob to the left, loosening the assembly and allowing the slider to move freely fore and aft. Once the slider is released, grip the knob and unscrew the screw completely to remove the knob.

Remove the Slider Assembly from the seat post.

Prior to removal, mark the top of the plate with a Sharpie marker. Using a Phillips screw driver, remove the four screws securing the base plate to the slider. Take care to insure the nylon washer is retained.

With the base plate removed, the slider will easily slide forward and out of the seat post.

With the Slider Assembly out of the seat post, you can remove the wedge assembly by pushing the rod forward to expose the top wedge for removal. With the top wedge removed, the rod and lower wedge can be pulled from the slider. Take care to make sure the washer remains on the rod.

Once the wedge assembly is removed from the slider, remove the saddle for installation on to the new slider. Using a 6 mm hex key loosen the seat clamp bolt to allow the top of the clamp to rotate 90 deg, releasing the saddle rails.

Note: To preserve the same mounting location on the new slider, mark the saddle rail position by drawing a line on either side of the post clamp with a Sharpie marker.

With the saddle removed from the clamp, you can now completely unscrew the clamp bolt and remove the clamp assembly for installation on to the new slider. Take note of the clamp parts position and orientation.

Note: When installing the seat clamp on to the new slider, apply a small amount of grease to the threads of the bolt. This will ensure removal and ease of adjustment in the future.

Reinstall the wedge assembly in to the new slider.

With the clamp transferred over to the new slider, install the seat, taking care to line up the previously marked position on the rail with the clamp. Secure the clamp bolt snugly to hold the saddle in place. You will be making the final position adjustment and tightening later.

To install the wedge assembly in the slider, first unscrew the rod mostly from the lower wedge. Insert the lower wedge and rod in to the slider and position the wedge in view through the top opening. Place the upper wedge on top noting to position it so as to be level with the top of the slider. Take note the washer is still on the rod end at this point.

Reinstall the new Slider Assembly in to the seat post.

Insert the new Slider Assembly in to the seat post, pulling it rearward to the stop and ensuring it slides smoothly.  Once inserted, rotate the wedge assembly rod clockwise until the washer and flange are positioned just inside the rear edge of the slider body.

Once there, install the rear plate and nylon washer on to the rod, making sure to orient the previously made mark at the top, aligning the asymmetrical screw pattern of the plate and slider body.

Tighten the screws incrementally in a star pattern using the Phillips screw driver.

Note: If the plate does not mount flush to the slider body, rotate the rod further clockwise and continue tightening screws until the plate is fully and evenly tight against the slider body.

Once the plate has been fully installed and all surfaces are flush and tight. Rotate the rod counter-clockwise until it stops against the plate. The assembly is now ready to receive the knob.

Install the Knob Assembly and End Cap.

For ease of installing the knob, insert the screw first in to the knob.  Then align the hexagonal key to the rod while you start the screw onto the rod.

Once the face of the knob makes contact with the rod, gently oscillate the the knob until you feel the key engage with the rod.  Continue to tighten until flush and complete with socket wrench. Install black plastic cap using 5 mm hex key.

Check function of wedge and knob assembly by tightening and loosening against the slider while repositioning the saddle fore and aft.

Level the saddle and tighten clamp bolt.

Check position of the saddle relative to the marks previously made to the seat rails and clamp.  You can also use a bubble level laid over the top of the seat. Check position and fit by pedaling the bike. When happy, firmly tighten seat clamp bolt (30 Nm) using a 6 mm hex key.

Plug bike into external power.

Re-plug bike into external power.

Pedal the bike.

Ride the bike to confirm it functions as expected and none of the installed parts are malfunctioning.
