Overview

Step-by-step guide for repairing the pin connectors in the nose cap of the StagesBike SB20


Repair of connector

  • Tools required
  • 3 mm hex key
  • Thumbtack, safety pin, or other pin-like tool

Replacement instructions


Unplug bike


Remove the power connector from the bike behind the rear leg before starting the repair.


Remove nose cap.


Use the 3 mm hex key to remove the 2 screws on either side of the nose cap; set aside for reassembly later.



Check connectors.


Check to make sure all wires are fully inserted by checking the wire side of each connector for looseness. Gently pull on each wire to make sure it is fully inserted in the connector.

If any wires are loose, push the wire back in until you hear a click. As needed, you may use a small tool to help press the wire into the connector. 


Repair female connector pins.


Before trying to re-connect the connector, check that the pins in the female connector are centered in the opening:



Repair receiver sleeves in the male connector.


Make sure all the receivers in the male connector are centered and unobstructed:


If damaged, use the thumbtack or pin to open these receivers up.



Note: Inserted in the receiver to open it slightly. Do not wiggle the pin side to side to open the receiver more.


Assemble connector.


Re-assemble the connector. It should not require much pressure for the connector to fully seat enough for the clip to engage. If it still is difficult, repeat the steps above, but use a larger pin to open the receivers.


If a wire is pushed out of a connector when the connectors are assembled, it's likely the user needs to do one of the 2 things above, after making sure the receivers and pins are aligned correctly, the user may need to push the wire into the assembled connector


Check bike.


If the connector now fully seats so the clip engages, plug in the bike and test it by pedaling without resistance, then pull one brake and make sure there is resistance. 


Open the Stages Cycling app and connect the bike. Continue pedaling the bike and check the Data tab to confirm you see power. 


If the bike is working, unplug it again and move to the next step. If not, a replacement connector is likely required.


Reassemble bike.


Use the 3 mm hex key to re-attach the nose cap to the bike. 


Plug bike in


Plug in bike and test again that it works.
